Diabetes Risk Self-Test
Check the box if any of these statements apply.
[ ] Being overweight or obese (having a body mass index [BMI] of 25 or higher). If you don’t know your BMI, use the calculator at nhs.uk/health-assessment-tools/calculate-your-body-mass-index. Another good measure is also the waist circumference at nhs.uk/health-assessment-tools/calculate-your-waist-to-height-ratio
[ ] Having a parent, brother, or sister who is diabetic.
[ ] Being African American, American Indian, Asian, Hispanic/Latino, or Pacific Islander.
[ ] Having a history of gestational diabetes or bearing a baby who weighed 9 pounds or more at birth.
[ ] Smoking.
[ ] Being 45 or more years old.
[ ] Having a poor diet; that is, regularly eating foods high in saturated fat, eating white bread and rolls and/or white rice, and consuming sweets and soft drinks regularly. Any item you have checked puts you at an increased risk for diabetes, and the more risk factors you have, the greater your chances of developing this disease. The good news is that you can change the outcome by adopting a healthy lifestyle and paying special attention to the programme in Journey to Wholeness over the next few weeks so you can deal with the matters you checked.
