Main message:
Do not wait for someone else to show kindness. Be the person who makes a difference today.
Theme: Small Acts of Kindness. Big Changes in Our Community.
Read the Main Scripture from the King James Version (KJV) text of the Parable of the Good Samaritan from Luke 10:25–37 in your own time.
Our scripture for today comes from Luke 10: 27
“And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.”
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A GOOD SAMARITAN?
A Good Samaritan is someone who sees a need and responds with compassion. It is someone who does not simply walk past another person's pain but asks, “What can I do to help?”
It is the neighbour who notices that an elderly person has not been outside for several days and decides to check in.
It is the young person who helps someone who has fallen.
It is the shopkeeper who treats a struggling customer with dignity.
It is the community member who refuses to spread gossip and chooses instead to promote peace.
It is the person who notices that somebody is struggling and says, “You don't have to face this alone.”
Being a Good Samaritan is not just about what we say. It is about what we do when an opportunity to show kindness presents itself.
LET US THINK ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY.
A good community is not built by buildings alone. It is built by people who care about one another.
It is built by neighbours who look out for each other, families who practise respect, young people who are encouraged, older residents who are valued, and individuals who are willing to lend a hand when they can.
We may not be able to remove every hardship. We may not be able to solve every problem. But we can choose not to make life harder for others, and we can look for opportunities to make life better.
The story of the Good Samaritan reminds us that compassion is not merely a feeling. It is a decision to respond to another person's need.
Five nuggets to remember at a glance:
1. See the person, not just the problem.
Treat everyone with dignity and compassion.
2. Do not just notice the need—respond.
Turn good intentions into helpful action.
3. Kindness does not have to cost money.
Give your time, encouragement, skills or a listening ear.
4. Start in your own corner.
Help the people around you, beginning today.
5. Make kindness a habit, not a performance.
Do good sincerely, consistently and wisely.
